English tutoring for students in the United States
Reading comprehension and evidence-based writing taught one to one, from early decoding through AP English.
Fluent reading and strong comprehension are different skills
A child who reads aloud fluently and then cannot answer questions about the passage does not have a reading problem. They have a comprehension strategy problem, and it is usually invisible until the texts get long enough that a general impression stops being enough. In the American sequence that is often middle school, when inference and author’s purpose questions start carrying real weight.
Writing fails separately. Common Core asks for claims supported by textual evidence, and the five-paragraph template most students are taught produces essays that have the shape of an argument without the substance of one. Those are two different fixes, and treating them as one subject called English is why a lot of tutoring produces nothing.

The real problem is rarely more practice
"He reads constantly and still does badly on comprehension."
Reading for pleasure and reading to answer a question are different skills. The second is taught: predict, question the text, then locate the sentence that actually supports the answer instead of recalling a general impression.
"Her essays are organised but say nothing."
Usually the five-paragraph template doing its damage. We work on the claim first, then on whether the evidence chosen actually supports it, before touching structure at all.
"His SAT Reading and Writing score is stuck."
The SAT modules are adaptive and heavily time-pressured, and most stalled scores are a question-type problem rather than a vocabulary one. Sectioned practice identifies which question types are losing the marks.
"Marking everything just makes her stop writing."
So we mark one thing at a time. A piece is marked for the structure being taught that week and the rest is left alone until its turn.

How tutoring runs for US families
Scheduled in your time zone and matched to the standards your district uses.
Free trial class
A real lesson with a subject specialist, followed by a discussion of the specific gaps found rather than a general impression.
Standards check
We ask which standards your district follows, then work from your child’s own assignments, quizzes and graded work.
Weekly slot in your time zone
Evenings and weekends across Eastern, Central, Mountain and Pacific time, with the same tutor each week.
Progress you hear first-hand
Regular parent-teacher meetings, plus one on demand whenever you want an honest read before a test date rather than after it.
The same approach applies to every subject: our coaching methodology explains how a lesson is planned, marked and followed up. You can also see everything we teach in United States or read reviews from parents.
