Why this course

An art that steadies the hand and the mind

Brush pen calligraphy teaches control: pressure for thick and thin, consistency stroke after stroke, and patience while a letterform slowly comes right. Children gain the same pen control that neat handwriting needs, from an angle they enjoy far more, because the object is to make something rather than to correct something.

It is also one of the most satisfying skills to learn live on camera. Every session ends with something on the page that was not there before, and the course ends with a complete piece, designed, lettered and shaded by the student, that is worth framing.

What we teach

From basics to beautiful, in five stages

The course covers every key fundamental and technique, each stage building on the one before.

01Basic strokesFoundationUpstrokes, downstrokes and curves, drilled until pressure and control are consistent. Every letter that follows is built from these.Thick and thinPen angleConsistency
02Letter formationLetterformsThe full alphabet, from simple forms to elegant scripts, each letter constructed from the strokes already mastered.Lowercase and capitalsSimple to elegantRhythm
03Word stylingCompositionConnecting letters beautifully: spacing, flow and bounce, so a whole word sits on the page as one shape.ConnectionsSpacingFlourishes
04Shadows and highlightsDepthShading, highlights and colour that lift flat lettering off the page and give a piece depth and flair.Drop shadowsHighlightsBlending

The benefits

Absolutely anyone can join

Calligraphy needs no background in art. Four kinds of learner come to these classes, and all begin at the same first stroke.

Students, ages 8 and up

Fine motor control, focus and the quiet pride of making something beautiful by hand, a skill that shows up in cards, posters and schoolwork.

Hobby artists

A structured route into lettering for anyone who doodles, journals or draws and wants their letters to match their art.

Teachers and professionals

Clearer, more elegant lettering for the classroom and the whiteboard, and a calm, screen-free way to unwind after work.

Parents and children together

A shared class and a shared hobby. Learning side by side is half the fun, and the practice keeps itself going at home.

What your child gains

By the end of the course

Control of pressure, angle and stroke

A complete lettering style, letters through styled words

A finished artwork, planned and made by hand

How it works

How a calligraphy course runs

Guided, practice-based sessions with expert coaches, live on camera.

01

First strokes in the free class

Tools, grip, pen angle and paper position, then the first strokes on camera. Most early frustration is a tool problem rather than a skill problem, and it is fixed here.

02

Strokes into letters

The handful of strokes every letterform is built from, drilled first, then assembled into a complete alphabet learned properly.

03

Letters into words

Connections, spacing and flow, so lettering stops being single characters and becomes styled words with rhythm.

04

Depth, then a final piece

Shadows, highlights and colour, ending in an artwork the student plans, composes and completes.

Every programme is taught one to one by a specialist, on the principles set out in our coaching methodology, under an ISO 9001:2015 certified quality system. Parents' own accounts are on our reviews page.

What is included

The course format

Short, guided and hands-on, designed so a complete beginner finishes with a frameable piece.

12 live sessions

A complete course in twelve live online sessions of 45 minutes to an hour each.

Expert coaches

Professional calligraphy coaches who demonstrate every stroke on camera and correct yours as it happens.

Practice-based classes

Interactive sessions where most of the time is pen on paper, with guided practice between classes.

Minimal materials

A few brush pens and paper are all the course needs. No paints, nibs or ink bottles.

What you need at home.A few brush pens and smooth paper, nothing more. Ordinary printer paper feathers the ink and makes good work look bad, so your coordinator sends a short list of pens and paper before class one.

Parents ask

Before you enrol

Do I need to be good at drawing?
No. Calligraphy is built from a small set of strokes that are drilled until they are consistent. It rewards patience and practice, not prior talent.
Will this improve everyday handwriting?
Indirectly. It builds control and consistency. If messy schoolwork is the actual problem, the handwriting course targets it directly and faster.
What age suits calligraphy?
Eight and above. It needs fine motor control and the patience to repeat a stroke, both of which arrive around then.
Am I too old to start?
No. Teenagers and adults often progress faster because the patience is already there, and many join simply to unwind with art.
Do we need expensive materials?
No. A few brush pens and a pad of smooth paper. The list is deliberately short.
Is it left-hand friendly?
Yes. Left-handed calligraphy uses a different paper angle and sometimes a different pen hold, and is taught that way rather than adapted awkwardly.
