English tutoring for students across Australia

English is the one subject nearly every Australian student must take to Year 12, which makes it the one that most often decides an ATAR.

Why it goes wrong

Compulsory to Year 12, and therefore unavoidable in the ATAR

In most Australian states English is the only subject required through to Year 12. A student aiming at a science or commerce degree still has to perform in English, and for many of them it is the weakest contributor to their ATAR. That makes it unusually high leverage: a few marks in English often move an ATAR more than the same effort in a subject the student enjoys.

The senior courses are state-specific. New South Wales runs Standard, Advanced and Extension with a common module structure; Victoria runs VCE English with its own text response and argument analysis tasks. The skills overlap; the task formats and the marking criteria do not.

What parents tell us

The real problem is rarely more practice

"He needs English for his ATAR and does not care about it."

A common and reasonable position. We treat it as a technical subject with rules that can be learned, which tends to work better with students who like maths than asking them to love the text does.

"Her essays are all summary and no analysis."

The most common single problem in senior English. Retelling the plot is safe and scores nothing. The fix is a repeatable structure that forces a claim before any evidence.

"We moved from NSW to Victoria in Year 11."

The task formats and criteria genuinely differ. The trial class establishes which VCE tasks are new to her rather than assuming the content transfers.

"NAPLAN writing came back low and nobody explained why."

NAPLAN writing is marked against explicit criteria including structure, cohesion and punctuation. It is teachable, and knowing the criteria usually explains the score.

How it works

How tutoring runs for Australian families

Australian Curriculum and your state syllabus, in AEST, ACST or AWST.

01

Free trial class

A real lesson, and a report on where your child sits against their year level rather than against the class they happen to be in.

02

State and syllabus check

We confirm the state before matching a tutor, because Years 11 and 12 follow the state certificate rather than a single national syllabus.

03

Weekly slot in your time zone

After school and weekends across eastern, central and western time, with the same tutor each week.

04

Term-aligned progress

Parent-teacher meetings that fit the four-term year, with an honest read before each assessment block rather than after it.

The same approach applies to every subject: our coaching methodology explains how a lesson is planned, marked and followed up. You can also see everything we teach in Australia or read reviews from parents.

“My son attended remote online English and Maths classes with Augment Edutech , and we have been very happy with the overall experience. The classes were well-structured, engaging, and the teachers explained concepts clearly and patiently. I particularly appreciated the way the teachers encouraged participation and made sure the concepts were understood rather than just covered.Recommend their English and Maths programs.”

“I shifted to the Australia last year, and I my son was not able to cope up with the new school system. That is where I found Augment Edutech, and to my surprise, they understood exactly what I needed. My son is now learning Math and English with Augment, and he is a good performer in his school this year. I can highly recommend Augment to anyone looking for personalised tuitions.”

Australian parents ask

Clear answers before you start

Which senior English courses do you support?
NSW Standard, Advanced and Extension; VCE English; QCE English; and the WACE and SACE equivalents. Tell the advisor the state and the course.
Do you prepare for NAPLAN writing?
Yes, for Years 3, 5, 7 and 9, taught against the marking criteria rather than as a formula.
The NAPLAN report says Developing. What does that mean?
Since 2023 NAPLAN reports four proficiency levels: Exceeding, Strong, Developing and Needs additional support. Developing means not yet proficient for the year level, and because the tests moved to March, the result arrives early enough in the school year to act on. Treat it as a flag for a diagnostic, not a verdict; the fix is curriculum work, not test cramming.
What is the Common Module everyone talks about?
Texts and Human Experiences, studied by Standard and Advanced students alike and examined in Paper 1: an unseen reading section and an essay on the prescribed text. Both halves are technique as much as knowledge, and both are practised here under time.
Standard or Advanced English?
The honest answer: the course where your child can reach the top bands. Scaling rewards Advanced only if the performance is there, and the school makes the final call. What we add is marked evidence of where the writing genuinely sits, so the conversation is about work rather than reputation.
Can you work on our school’s prescribed texts?
Yes. Texts are chosen school by school within a state list, so tell us the titles at the trial class.
My child is strong in maths and weak in English. Is that fixable?
Usually, and often quickly, because senior English marking is more rule-bound than students assume. Treating it as a system to learn suits this student well.
Do you support EAL students?
Yes, where the goal is academic English: the EAL/D pathway in New South Wales, VCE EAL in Victoria, and the curriculum more broadly. Vocabulary and sentence structure are scaffolded without lowering the demand of the texts. We do not offer conversational language classes.
Can you stretch a strong student toward Extension English?
Yes, where a specialist is available. Extension 1 rewards conceptual sophistication and Extension 2 is a sustained original composition, so the support is closer to supervision than to teaching: planning, drafts and honest feedback, with the work remaining your child’s.
Do you help with oral presentations?
Yes, including structure, timing and delivery, which are assessed in several states.
Is tutoring one to one?
One tutor, one student, with the same tutor each week. Small groups of closely matched level can be arranged on request.
When do classes run?
After school, evenings and weekends in your own time zone, AEST through ACST to AWST, in a fixed weekly slot.
What if a class has to be missed?
Tell us in advance and it is rescheduled at no extra cost. The slot stays your child’s.
How do we follow progress?
In the essays themselves, which move through draft and feedback against the marking criteria, and directly from the tutor: notes every couple of weeks and parent-teacher meetings whenever you ask. Most families see structure improve within six to eight weeks.
What do we need at home?
A laptop or desktop with a webcam and microphone and a steady connection. Classes run on Microsoft Teams.
